Industry News: Janet No Longer at Island Def Jam, Christina Milian is on MySpace

Janet is free, no longer on Island Def Jam
In an exclusive vlog for Rap-Up.com, super producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins has revealed that Janet Jackson is no longer with the Island Def Jam Music Group.
“We didn’t get the support from the record company,” he discloses. “[Janet] felt like it wasn’t pushed. I felt like it wasn’t pushed correctly. She just didn’t get her just-do as an artist of that magnitude.”
Janet signed to Island Def Jam in 2007 and released Discipline, her first album on the label, in February of this year. It debuted at No. 1, but sold less in its first week than Janet’s last two albums, 2006’s 20 Y.O. and 2004’s Damita Jo.
No word on what label Janet will end up at, but you can catch her on the "Rock Witchu Tour".
Christina Milian is on MySpace Records
Cristina Milian, who was also signed to Def Jam but dropped due to insufficient sales, has a new label. The 26-year-old singer has just inked a deal with MySpace Records.
"I've been out of the game for one-and-a-half years, and I think I'm long overdue for a comeback, so I'm treating this album like it's my last chance to make an impression. I'm competing with myself and being very detailed," she told Billboard Magazine. "Before, I had a label telling me what direction to go in. Now, it's my choice, so I'm being very particular about it and I'm really excited."
The album will feature production from Cool and Dre, The Runners, JR Rotem and also Timbaland protégé Danja. As well as a rumored collaboration with Kanye West.
Milian's new song "Us Against The World" will be released on October 6th. We should expect her third album in Spring of '09.
