Hip Hop Weekly is alive and well and actually outperforming many urban magazines

A funny thing happened earlier yesterday, SOHH.com reported a rumor that Hip Hop Weekly magazine was headed for bankruptcy. Well today not only have they retracted their story, and eliminated the story from their blog, but they also offered a full apology to it's readers and Hip Hop Weekly.

Yesterday's post on SOHH.com:

“According to my source, things have not been all that promising over at the HHW offices… which just SOHH happens to be Dave Mays living room,” read the blog. “… I don’t know how far they are with the filing the actual Bankruptcy paperwork.”

The apology on SOHH.com today:

Yesterday we posted a rumor about Hip Hop Weekly filing bankruptcy. The rumor was based upon information we received from a source -- information which we later found out was false and inaccurate.

Jennifer Williams, Hip Hop Weekly's publicist, told us that the company is in fact doing well.

"Dave Mays and Benzino recently opened a new multi-million dollar facility with offices and state-of-the-art recording studios in Miami," she said. "They are currently readying their return to a monthly editorial format to compete directly against XXL, The Source and Vibe at the beginning of the year with their new title, Monsta."

The job of a gossip blogger is to provide information and entertainment by reporting on the latest gossip and rumors. In an effort to get it first, we sometimes get it completely wrong. This is one of those times.

There is a silver lining to this incident. One, it's giving us the opportunity to reevaluate our standards so that the information you get from us is as reliable as can be--considering it is gossip and rumors.

From now on, we'll be sure to double check our sources before we dish. We'll make the distinction to you of how reliable and credible a piece of information is so you'll know how to weigh it. And if we report on a rumor and it turns out to be bogus, we'll be the first to admit it.

So, consider this a platform to clarify the rumors already floating around on the net. You can trust us that if we've got it wrong, we'll say so and get it right.

Thanks to Dave Mays, Benzino, the folks over at Hip Hop Weekly and our readers for understanding our mistakes.

U411 Note: if people focused more on their plan of success than on planning others downfalls there would be a lot more successful people in this world
