Magazines: Esquire Will Feature World's 1st Electronic Cover
Esquire Magazinewill celebrate its 75th anniversary in October with the world's first electronic cover. The revolutionary cover will feature words and images flashing on it. It was created using a new technology called Electronic Paper Display (EPD) by E Ink. E Ink originally developed EPD for Amazon's Kindle and Sony Reader but this is the first time it will be used as a cover of a magazine.
The cost of the cover was offset by Ford who will use the inside cover ad to promote its new Ford Flex.
“This cover is both a breakthrough for magazines and an expression of the theme of our anniversary issue,” said David Granger, editor-in-chief, Esquire. “We’ve spent 16 months making this happen as one of the ways we’re demonstrating that the 21st century begins this fall. The entire issue is devoted to exploring the ideas, people and issues that will be the foundation of the 21st century.”
Only 100,000 of the 720,000 magazines printed will feature the exclusive cover.
